Last month my former high school, Southeast Raleigh High (Raleigh, NC) honored retiring Coach John Baker III, at one of the basketball games. A more familiar “Coach Bake” is what the community, students, and players, myself included know him by. Bake was a tough coach, I mean physically opposing in stature, and even more in basketball philosophy. I had a lot of basketball coaches growing up, and Bake easily took the cake when it came to having the hardest practices. I could’ve easily competed in cross country running after playing for Bake, the conditioning and practices were INTENSE. However, I…

Cyber Warfare… You remember the movie Hackers? Yeah me either. I think the movie came out long before I was born. Maybe I should check it out. Either way, cyber threats are more prevalent today than ever before. There are so many different attacks out there! Sometimes you may not even know that some days you have has been compromised until 6 months later and the hacker is long gone!! Sheesh. That’s scary isn’t it? There is one attack in particular that I want to point out. These baby’s are called ransom attacks. Yes. Ransom. Have you seen the movie…

THIS JUST IN! DC COMICS IS NOT THE SAME AS MARVEL COMICS! Ok, now that we’ve got that out the way I feel as though people still don’t comprehend what that means. Well, I’ll tell you. Marvel comics really does a great job satisfying fans need for hilarious, and fun superheroes. Then, they all team up for some great action when they actually need to. Do no knock them for that, I love that myself. DC Comics is not that way. DC’s superheroes are three dimensional. They have DEPTH! The characters are a lot more serious because of the very…

Around this time of year you see lots of ads, commercials, and media publicizing tax refunds. They promise a certain percentage back, they tell you about special programs, and they tout about the millions in refunds that were handed out last year. And it’s enticing; the average Tax Return last season was almost $3,000. Businesses know this as well, they “discount” TVs, laptops, and other desirables knowing your getting ready to receive a large sum of money. But it’s not a good thing. Basically you’ve given the government a nice loan over the year, and they returned it without interest.…

With Bas, J.Cole has found the Kanye to his Jay-Z… The “Night Job” Song from J.Cole’s “Revenge of the Dreamers II” , was my first time hearing Bas and I really liked his verse. I didn’t have any expectations for this 12 song album when I found it on Apple Music, but it really blew me away. It’s an album that grows on you the more you listen to it. I don’t think I fully appreciated it until my second or third listen through. The Sundanese rapper from Paris has a lot to say, and he does it with a…

After helping the masses you need time to yourself. You need time to think on what you’ve done, what you’ve said, and what you want to do. You also need time just to rest yourself. Often times during this time to yourself you will find yourself questioning everyone else. All of your experiences have shown you to always stay on your toes. Even though people look at you like a hero, we all know that even heroes are crucified. With all of this knowledge of self, and of the way the world works you’re going to find yourself wondering, will…

The war for your soul is a constant battle. It’s one that makes us question who we are, and sends us into fits of rage. In most cases you will lose a few of those battles. The important thing to ask yourself is, did I learn from this? Or, what did I learn? A war for your soul is always the devil trying to turn you into something that you’re not. Accepting everything that has made you who you are is incredible. You begin to see how god brought you out of situations just so that you can relate to…

We as humans, we judge, and we judge a lot. Often times we judge prematurely. We get upset when people don’t act the way that we expect them to. Instead of trying to get to the root of the problem, we simply ignore it. We should ask ourselves, what would happen if we actually sit down and have a conversation with the ones we figured were troubled? Maybe, just maybe, they feel inferior to you. A person who they see as being more successful. Envy, jealousy, and even anger stem from something so deep that the person will never be…

Accountability. A word that people are very afraid of for some reason. Yet as powerful as it is, people still don’t hold themselves accountable. I’m not sure why we are always quick to blame someone else for a situation that we could have avoided. It’s a known fact that there are challenges facing people day in and day out, but if we continue to put ourselves in this situation to get into trouble, than who’s really to blame? There are people waiting for you to mess up because they really can’t stand you and want to hurt you, and yet…

One thing that every person has struggled with (whether you admit it or not) is loving yourself. Feeling as though you’re different in a world where everyone praises cookie cutter lives can make you question yourself. We can view uniqueness as a curse, and in some cases, we fall right into the trap of mediocrity by not embracing who we are. Television programs, movies, radio shows, and even internet trolls can make us view ourselves as not good enough. But whether you’re a woman, Black, White, Asian, Latin, Middle Eastern, anything that’s a little different from the norm, you need…
