It’s safe to say that Nicki Minaj has felt like the only female rapper that we’ve had in the game for the last six years. She came into the industry with her mind on taking over the game, and she did just that within a year it felt like. However, since her ascent, it’s feels like she is now a gimmick artist, and the gimmick culture is beginning to change. I know that many young people don’t remember, but there was a time where female rappers were ruling the industry. From Foxy Brown and Lil Kim, to Charlie Baltimore and Vita. Though they were not superstars, they all challenged each other. They made sure that every bar that they spit was hot enough to compete with the best male rappers. We have been missing that type of female artist in the industry. Someone who speaks their mind, and whose flow can change your mood. We need a female’s voice who thinks about more than just themselves, we need one who really wants to make change, provide discussions, and uses their voice to truly make a statement. I believe that we now have that female artist! It’s time that we make sure that JuJu gets her shine!
JuJu’s come up, is reminiscent of Chance The Rapper and Tory Lanez. She was smart enough to build a fan base on the internet and have the labels come knocking down her door instead of vice versa. By doing that, she’s able to stick to who she is. So the question is, who is JuJu?
JuJu is reminiscent of Kendrick Lamar. She has a purpose to her music. First off, her child is always going to be the most important thing in her life. So life to her is much more than just material things, it’s about love, and the need to shape things better for future generations. Her songs are done with an immense fire that makes every word she says nearly bring you to paralysis as you try to make sure that you catch every word she says.
If I had to compare her to anyone, I would say that she reminds me of Rah-Digga. For those who don’t know who the flipmode first lady is. She could most likely rap circles around any dude in the rap game today. Her flow was unlike any other. When I hear Juju, she reminds me of an extremely conscious Rah-Digga. With all that’s going on in the world, you can hear that she’s ready to help the fight today. JuJu understands the power that she holds with the gift that she’s be given and you can feel that she’s going to use it in the right way.
The rap game has really been lacking a true female MC. Someone who can jump on a track and kick it with Beyonce, but also have the lyrical prowess to be able to flow with someone like Royce Da 5’9 and Pharoah Monch.
JuJu is definitely on her way to make sure that she is a household name. She doesn’t want to be boring, and she’s coming to give the old school mentality to the new generation who has yet to hear what a true female MC sounds like.
So watch out Nicki Minaj, JuJu is coming to challenge your 6 year reign over the female rap game!
