Having the Christmas spirit as an adult is a very challenging task. You have to work day in and day out, up until a few days before Christmas, and people are depending on you to get lots of tasks done. Even when you are up to it, you have to go to the zoo known as the retail stores just to buy a Christmas tree, or lights, or decoration, or something else that is for the season. When you’re in these stores you see just how animalistic these people can be and it can turn you off completely. The next thing you know you’re now upset, and pissed with those closest to you because of how much you had to endure just to try to make the season great. In the midst of all of this excitement it can be easy to lose your Christmas spirit. Life happens, and it happens fast. You go from being provided for, to having to be the provider, and just like the old saying “With great power comes great responsibility.” With that responsibility we can lose our spirit a little bit.
We will ask ourselves “Where did my Christmas spirit go?” and most times we don’t know that it got lost trying to provide other’s their Christmas spirit and no one is giving you yours. There are a few things that you can do to try to get your spirit back up for those that are lacking some Christmas spirit.
- LISTEN TO CHRISTMAS MUSIC.
There something that is very soothing and loving about Christmas music. Personally my favorite thing to do is to listen to the Boyz II Men Christmas Pandora station. The music is often cheerful and it reignites something in your spirit even when you’re looking at gloom and depression in the world.
- BE IN AN AREA WHERE THE SPIRIT IS ALIVE.
Children are always in the Christmas spirit, being around a mall can be a great place. Don’t go to the actual stores just walk around and look at the happiness on the children and sometimes the adult’s faces. Even better than that you can go to a place where ice skating or a concert is happening and it will make you feel even better.
- WATCH SOME CHRISTMAS MOVIES.
A visual always works. Sometimes we have to go back to movies when we were kids when the Christmas spirit was always in us. It’s like looking at pictures and going down memory lane. Sometimes watching movies that were important to you as a child will help reawaken that childlike spirit.
- GO OUTSIDE AND ENJOY THE NATURE WHILE LISTENING TO CHRISTMAS MUSIC.
Sometimes breathing Mother Nature in will send a chill through your body, and if you couple that in with listening to the joyous Christmas music you will discover that something in you can still be awakened. Nature is beautiful, there is something in it that connects humans to it, and listening to Christmas music while standing in nature will put you right back in the mood.
- JUST REMEMBER THE REASON FOR THE SEASON.
The reason for the season is about more than stores, spoiled kids, frustrated adults, and working to get the gifts that the kids want. It’s about family, it’s about giving, and it’s about Jesus Christ. It’s about sacrificing for someone just to help. We live in a society where wants are confused with needs and we become spoiled because of that. We need to remember the true reason for the season. Jesus was born, and people traveled far and wide to see the king. It’s a holiday for rejoicing, and loving. Love your family, love the life that you’re given, and love each other.
If you can do every one of these steps, you will get back in the spirit.
