This is truly the end of an era. The hunger games started off as a huge hit right away. It catapulted Jennifer Lawrence from independent actress to globally renowned star. Just like J Law’s star power the hunger games has been building towards an amazing climax. The games were sadistic, the emotional repercussions were confusing, and you find yourself racking your brain on what to think. Throughout all that we have been through with the hunger games, you should know that the ending is as satisfying and great as you could expect.
Throughout this entire series we have been captivated by the confusion in Katniss Everdeen’s life. What’s real, and what’s not real? What’s meant to deceive and what’s meant to help? The end of this trilogy brought all of that around full circle. Throughout the movie you will have the most anxiety you’ve ever had while watching these movies. Suzanne Collins has crafted a great story with a fitting end.
Throughout the entire series they are trying to break out of this oppression that has hung over their heads since they were born just like Peeta said “Our lives were never ours to begin with.” The Mockingjay presents a leader from district 13 who seems to have gone through the same exact feelings as all of the other districts and wants the same thing, revenge and freedom. Katniss only wants revenge and wants to do it by herself. But just like in part 1 she was used as more of a marketing scheme to unite the other districts. She was only a symbol, never a hero. What is great about this movie is the fact that Katniss takes power from President Coin (who’s portrayed wonderfully by the beautiful Julianne Moore) just like she did President Snow.
Taking power from someone who wants to ascend to the thrown is a very risky thing to do. People will become desperate, loyalties will be tested, and everything you thought you trusted turns out to be a lie. The Mockingjay brings all of that to this final film.
This movie had, by far, the most heart pounding action, and anxiety producing moments of the whole trilogy. There will be moments when you are on the edge of your seat wanting to grip the persons hand next to you. After watching this movie you will see why they decided to split this movie up into two parts because they could not fit all of this amazing storyline into one movie. When the movie decides to slow you will still be on the edge of your seat because you’re still trying to figure out what’s real and what isn’t. The writers and director did an amazing job with that.
The acting in this movie was still great quality. The whole cast from Jennifer Lawrence all the way down to Evan Ross was phenomenal. They all mesh with each other so well. The emotion that is portrayed, the desperation that they convey is absolutely mesmerizing. Even the heartbreaking moments are felt right down to the core of your being.
Overall you should expect this movie to be several notches up from the Mockingjay Part 1. It will give you the gut twirling sickness that you got from the first hunger games when you first saw all of those children lined up to die. The action and plot twists were amazing and you will be on the edge of your seat the whole time. The Mockingjay Part 2 leads to an amazing finish that sends this amazing trilogy off in the proper way.
I’m going to give this movie a 9.1/10
